Growth technology BMB- 707

Biomass Booster has developed its own technology platform, based on patented gene BMB-707, which increases biomass productivity between 23% and 60% in the species tested.

The mammalian peptide adrenomedullin (AM) acts as a growth factor in plants, both in vivo and in vitro, producing an increase of biomass ranging between 23% and 60% over controls.

Growth factors are extracellular signals that regulate cell proliferation and total body mass in all living organisms. Some animal growth factors can work in plant tissues and vice versa. It was found that mammalian AM induces growth in tobacco plants, both in vitro and in vivo.

The specimens expressing AM showed improvements in survival and a significant increase in stem diameter, plant height, length of leaves, weight of all its organs (roots, stems, leaves, and flowers) and reduction in flowering time compared with the control plants. The differences remained when all the body parts were dried. At the end of the plant´s life cycle, the biochemical composition of leaves (soluble sugars and proteins) was studied and was identical between genotypes.

To sum up, AM increases vascular plant´s survival and biomass, with no apparent detriment on morphology and biochemical properties. Therefore, this strategy is useful for improving crop productivity. The same procedure achieved an increase of up to 250% in microalgae.


In addition, AM-expressing plants are more resistant to drought.
